The ever-so popular video game of Final Fantasy is back in a direct sequel to 2010′s XIII. Final Fantasy XIII-2 has already been launched in Japan and is set to hit the UK’s shores in February 2012. The story picks up after the XIII game, and is set some three years later. It sees Serah Farron, the younger sister of Lightning, and Noel Kreiss attempt to find the older sibling after she disappeared into the the unknown underworld.

The game features more cinematic features during battles, which encapsulates the sheer power of both the XBOX 360 and the PlayStation 3′s capabilities, and varies between Active Time Battle (ATB) and Command Synergy Battle systems. This is a fantastic upgrade to the XIII game’s issues with battle events. The Mog Clock is another feature that differs from the older game, and challenges players to fight monsters in the shortest time possible, in order to win bonuses or succumb to penalties for taking too long.

The story delves deeper into the mythology of the Fabula Nova Crystallis, and sees the Cocoon and Gran Pulse worlds return. It also sees non-player characters (NPCs) with more of a role in the game, and not only do the story-lines and their scripts differ on each encounter, they add to the multiple endings or actions you come across in the game, making Final Fantasy XIII-2 much more unique and varied.

During the game, the usual Final Fantasy battles, adventure and plot-solving features are needed from the player and it makes way for a fine sequel that is perfect for Final Fantasy fans and fans of MMORPGs.
